The 60-second answer

Claude Cowork connects to Google Drive, Microsoft 365, and Slack, and Anthropic’s directory carries 200+ connectors available on every paid plan. Cowork is agentic: give it a goal, and it works across your connected files and tools to reach it, rather than answering one prompt at a time. The desktop app is what reaches local folders and installed applications; web and mobile are in beta.

The connector reaches the document layer of a business: files, messages, calendars. It does useful work there the same afternoon you connect it. What it does not reach is the operational software that runs the actual job: the scheduling, the chart notes, the matter file, the ledger that is not QuickBooks or Xero. That boundary is where the connector stops and where a different kind of work starts.

What it connects to today

The map below shows what Claude reaches across the software an Island operation actually runs on. Green means a first-party connector exists today; a dash means the claim has not been verified and will not be stated as fact.

Available on all paid plans. Claude suggests relevant connectors in context, and they install in one click.

What it does well

Reads across a folder of quotes or contracts and answers a question about all of them at once. Point Cowork at a Drive folder holding six months of estimates. Ask which ones never got followed up. The answer references specific documents rather than guessing.

Works a Drive or Microsoft 365 folder to a stated goal rather than one prompt at a time. “Summarize the last quarter’s invoices by client and flag anything overdue” is a single goal. Cowork works through the folder, not one file at a time waiting for the next instruction.

Pulls a Slack thread into a document without a copy and paste. A thread that ran for three days, with decisions buried in replies, gets turned into a structured summary in a Doc or a Word file, with the decisions extracted and the noise removed.

What it cannot reach

On 23 Apr 2026, Anthropic added 15 everyday-life connectors to the directory: AllTrails, Audible, Booking.com, Instacart, Credit Karma, TurboTax, Resy, Spotify, StubHub, Taskrabbit, Thumbtack, Tripadvisor, Uber, Uber Eats, Viator.

Restaurant bookings, concert tickets, ride hailing, audiobooks, tax filing.

Now check the directory for the software that runs a working operation on Vancouver Island:

  • Jobber (trades, ~24% of the mailing list): check pending
  • ServiceTitan (trades): check pending
  • Jane App (clinics): no connector, no public API
  • Clio (legal): first-party, via Claude for Legal (May 2026)
  • QuickBooks (accounting): first-party, via Intuit MCP partnership (Feb 2026)
  • Xero (accounting): first-party, official directory connector
  • Sage (accounting): check pending
  • Square (food and beverage, retail): first-party, Claude plugin (Jul 2026)

The document layer is well covered. The operational layer is partially covered for finance and legal, and absent for scheduling, clinical records, and field service.

Your data, and who sees it

Cowork connects through the desktop app for local files and through cloud connectors for Drive, Microsoft 365, and Slack. The connection grants read access to the files and messages you select; the scope is set when you connect.

On Team (US$20/seat, 2 to 150 seats) and Enterprise plans, Anthropic does not use your data for training by default. On consumer plans (Pro, Max), the training policy shifted to a user-choice model in August 2025: check your plan settings.

For a legal practice using Clio through Claude for Legal, the data crosses into Anthropic’s processing environment. The obligations around solicitor-client privilege sit with your profession’s regulator, and their answer governs. What this section describes is what the software does, so the question you take to them is the right one.

What it costs

ProUS$17/mo (annual), US$20 (monthly)All 200+, included

The connector is included in the subscription. The subscription reaches as far as your documents, your messages, and the cloud services with connectors in the directory.

The cost of connecting the system that runs the job, the scheduling software, the clinical records, the matter management, lands somewhere else. That cost depends on what the system is and what you need the AI to do inside it.

What AI connectors actually cost

Where it stops, and what sits past it

The connector reaches the file. The system that runs the job sits outside it.

That is not a complaint about the product. Claude Cowork does useful work inside the document and communication layer of a business the same day you connect it. The boundary is structural: a general-purpose AI assistant connects to the software that has opened its data through connectors; the operational software that runs the day-to-day of a specific vertical, in most cases, has not.

Past the boundary, three routes:

  1. The vendor’s own AI. Some operational software ships its own assistant. Xero’s JAX handles bank reconciliation and invoice data extraction, powered by Claude under the hood. Check the vendor first, because it is included and it already has the data.
  2. Export and work on the copy. Export the data, bring it into Claude, and work on it there. That gets an answer today, and it costs a snapshot that is stale by Thursday and a file of customer data sitting somewhere it was not before.
  3. Build the connection. A purpose-built integration that connects the operational system to the AI layer, keeps the data current, and runs without someone driving it. That is what workflow automation and AI development produce.

A subscription is not the same thing as AI development covers the full difference between what a subscription reaches and what a built system does.

The connector reached its edge. Here is what sits past it.

Questions

Does Claude Cowork work on all plans?

The Cowork feature and the full connector directory are available on every paid plan: Pro (US$17/mo annual), Max 5x (US$100), Max 20x (US$200), Team (US$20/seat for 2 to 150 seats), and Enterprise. The connectors are included in the subscription.

Can Claude Cowork reach my practice management software?

If your software has a connector in the directory, Cowork can reach it. QuickBooks, Xero, Clio, and Square have first-party connectors today. Jobber, ServiceTitan, Jane App, and Sage do not. For software without a connector, the routes are: the vendor's own AI feature, a documented export, or a built integration.

Is my business data used to train the model?

On Team and Enterprise plans, Anthropic does not use your data for training by default. On consumer plans (Pro, Max), the policy shifted to a user-choice model in August 2025. Check your plan's current terms for the opt-out.

What is the difference between Cowork and the regular Claude chat?

Regular Claude answers one prompt at a time in a conversation window. Cowork is agentic: give it a goal, and it works across your connected files and tools to reach it. Cowork can read a folder of contracts and answer a question about all of them at once, or pull a Slack thread into a document without a copy and paste.

Do I need the desktop app?

For local folders and apps, yes. The desktop app is what reaches files on your machine and applications installed locally. Web and mobile access exist but are in beta for the full Cowork feature set.

THE CONNECTOR REACHES THE FILE · THE SYSTEM RUNS PAST IT

The part past the connector.

Connecting your documents takes an afternoon and the connector is included in what you already pay. Connecting the system that runs the job takes building, and how much building depends on what the system is and what you need out of it. Fifteen minutes on a call is enough to tell which one you are looking at.
